I think I read something, some time, some where, LOL, that babies in the bili haze don't seem to come out of it having bottle/breast confusion issues. Does anyone else remember this? There are only 21,000 articles and 900 books and pamphlets in the CBI RL now, LOL. Pat in SNJ

Ingrid and Pat,
Those are excellent points. Drinking plenty of breastmilk will soon help
with the bili levels. It's wonderful to see these little ones wake up and
suddenly realise what it is all about. Having a bottle introduced at such as
early age, the baby may have come to expect continuous flow, drip, drip,
drip (or gush, gush, gush) and be de-skilled at breast. Any bottle use
should be paused or alternative methods of supplementation used.
I would add the suggestion of pausing breastfeeding if the baby is finding
the flow fast - just stopping for a moment or so and then resuming.

How was baby fed the night under the lights? Is it possible that that was
her first exposure to the bottle, resulting in an unwillingness to do the
work it takes to breastfeed?
I think this is a situation where a 'bed in' (safely, of course) would be
useful. Mom topless, baby in just a diaper. Hang out in laid-back
breastfeeding position, let baby nip and nap as much she wants. Keep an eye
on diapers to make sure milk is going in. Use something other than a bottle
if more pumped milk seems needed or use paced bottle feeding extremely
judiciously.
This mom could also benefit from a gentle exploration of her expectations -
breastfeeding all the time is what she will be doing even (especially) if
all is going well.

Bili makes them tired and disorganized. As it comes down she will wake up
and figure it out. Tell mom to hang inthere! Pat in SNJ
