Hi Betty, I’m in Australia so am unsure how strong Lortab is, but as it is prescription I’m thinking pretty strong!

Most of the places I’ve worked here would give paracetamol only if no perineal trauma, though often have to add ibuprofen or diclofenac with the multiparas for involution pains for a few days.
If there is perineal trauma that is sutured, the mums are given indomethacin PR when checking haemostasis, and as this lasts 12hrs or so, they just have panadol and occasionally brufen or diclofenac.
Of course there is always the occasional woman who needs something stronger for a few doses.

I do believe some units use topical gels/sprays but I’ve not seen them used.

All have HIPPS management ( hygiene, ice, pelvic floor exercises, pain relief, support)
