I teach a quick breastfeeding session (30 minutes) in the post-partum unit and I discuss Vit D supplements. When I have this discussion I always ask everyone in the room if they have been tested recently. I also ask this question during my routine prenatal breastfeeding class. I have been amazed to learn that roughly 90% or higher of everyone who has been tested has been low. I live in North Carolina - loaded with the sun during the summer. But on most days it is so muggy no one wants to be outside.

But, when I think about it I could relate if I found out my levels were low. 5 days out of the week I am stuck in a building from 8:00 - 5:00. Then spend 30 minutes driving home. By the time I am home the sun is gone. The same would go for the majority of mothers who are working full time as well.
