Could it be that they reject their babies because they are not "clean"? We live in world where sanitized bodies are the norm, and giving birth is basically a very animalistic process. I can see how some women might struggle with embracing a newborn with blood and other fluids still on them; their bodies, their hair. Even if a nurse wipes most of it off, it's very far from the scrubbed and deodorized ideal. It's sad really, but not surprising.
