At a prenatal bf class,a Chinese father asked about the mom avoiding eating
maltose while bf. He said it's a very common Asian belief that it should
be avoided while bf. First I've heard of that.
So, I understand it's a sugar, etc and seems unlikely to be a problem from
my western med point of view.
But I'd like to understand what the concern is from an Asian point of view.
Does anyone know anything about it?
Last night's class was an average sample of who I see in my clinic: there
were Chinese, Mexican, Pilipino, Nigerian, Pakistani, and white US born.
I'm fascinated by & learn a lot from cultural practices and think
understanding where assumptions start as an important part of being able to
work with different populations.
Thanks for any insight on the cultural thoughts about maltose.
