Hi Heather, I'm not sure on what grounds a diagnosis of a possible allergic response is being made. Has a medical doctor been seen?
While it's relatively unusual, a few women experience headaches or nausea a few moments into a feed, often associated with the letdown (MER). One of my clients had splitting headaches on becoming over full and needed support to manage breastfeeding and breastmilk feeding prior to and after her return to part-time work, so as to prevent becoming over full. One of the women I surveyed some years ago was okay early in a feed but had symptoms building up towards the end of the feed and for a little whle after. Some women have a feeling of nausea associated with giving a breastfeed. There are so many unknowns and every case seems to be different. A full medical work-up is warrranted.

Hello!

Does anyone have some current recommendations on the best medications for a mother who may be having an allergic response to the hormones of breastfeeding? This mama is already two months postpartum but is still having a severe reaction while feeding/pumping (she describes it as a full body hot flash which includes feeling like every inch of her itches). She has put up with it since delivery and is trasitioning her premature twins to exclusive breastfeeding but is deperate for refief. She does not want to take something that will make her drowsy. I know that this is a unique situation if she truly has BFA, but I am hoping that something to help supress the histamine response will help. I would love any suggestions or resources that you have so that I can provide her with more information
