Lisa, I've had mothers in other situations (induced lactation and relaction)
tell me they were expressing "regularly" or "frequently", and when I have
asked for specifics, they think three times a day is frequent. This
perception is common. So we then have a conversation about doing it as
often as a normal, full-term baby would feed. Before looking for other
reasons, it would help to find out how many time per day this mother is
removing milk. Frequency of milk removal may require support to do so,
beyond the actual information - perhaps a peer counsellor who has also had a
premmie or a support group for mums of premmies. Look at improving
frequency, but also look at challenges that you'd look at in any mother,
e.g. widely spaced breasts with a flat area between them, most of the
secretory tissue in the areola, and so on. I'd also ask about fertility
issues. Is her baby stable enough for some skin-to-skin.

Had a mom deliver at 31 weeks, according to her she pumps regularly and
pump flanges fit, but her production is not going up. She has a hospital
grade Ameda. Has anyone had problems with premature mom's getting a full
production? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
