Nursing System.

Dear Elaine,
my comment to your question below:
In Europe the smaller type of the SNS is not available, therefore I don’t
have information on the hygiene of the smaller SNS. As far as it looks like
the material, the diameter is the same for the small and the big SNS.
Therefore I assume that the small one can be used longer, too and also be
boiled or sterilized. However, the manufacturer needs to be asked.
The larger SNS is safe for longterm use – there are independent
investigations on this – the tubes can easily be cleaned by hot water and
all parts boiled or sterilized once a day (as described in the Parent-Info:
Breastfeeding with the Supplementary Nursing System).
Best regards
Márta

Subject: Quick question re SNS
Quick question re SNS (supplemental nursing system): Is there a specific
reason why, according to the manufacture specs, the smaller one is
recommended for 24 hr use and the larger one can be used as long as needed?
As far as cleaning, the cleaning directions are the same, and the tubing is
very very small on the big one, so is there any medical reason not to
continue using the single one as long as it is thoroughly cleaned after each
use? I just don't see any difference in the way they are made or the way
they function.
Thanks.
