Hello,

I have been supporting birthing families as a doula, childbirth educator and lactation counselor for 18 years. In recent years, I have been moving outside of the private clients I had worked with and into consulting and program work with women living in poverty. My work involves travel, and I have encountered a theme that may be familiar to you. In numerous cities, I have been told that women--often non-native English speakers--are told that they are required to have a shot of Depo Provera before leaving the hospital. Is this something that happens in your community or facility? If so, I very much want to hear your thoughts and experiences.

I find myself moved to the point of wanting to learn more and find a way to affect change. I look forward to learning from you and any resources you may suggest.

Be well,

Jackie Kelleher, CD(DONA), PCD(DONA), CLC
