I started work as a hospital IBCLC in 1986. I can remember with non latching babies, filling a bottle nipple with colostrum and giving it to baby near mom's breast. Then putting baby to breast quickly. It was like the baby startled and said "oh that's what these are for" and breastfeeding went on from there. I guess it is same as expressing some colostrum and rubbing it on the nipple/areola, except we didn't think that way back then, LOL.
Interesting article yesterday on how babies react to the washed and unwashed breast immediately after birth. The unwashed breast gets the prize :-)
The biggest problem we have in the CBI RL is stopping to read the articles on the way to Key wording, entering & scanning them. LOL. Pat in SNJ
