Since the baby was premature, I wonder if there are any breathing
issues? Was this baby a "well" premie or sick in any way with
respiratory distress. Perhaps the positioning of baby at breast is
compromising breathing during suck/swallow/breathe for example baby
with head flexed too much, or a large fluffy breast obstructing the
nose in some way. Perhaps baby manages to suck/swallow/breathe alot
easier with the finger feeding?
