You are quoting a court order from last century, nearly 30 years ago as support for your argument.
As to evidence based practice, if we didn't have that as a basis for out practice with mothers and babies we could still be recommending that formula is better for babies than breast milk (1950s).
I have a link here which illustrates one of several reasons (including the anti immunisation stance of many chiros) why I wouldn't recommend chiropractic for babies http://www.smh.com.au/national/health/call-for-age-limit-after-chiropractor-breaks-babys-neck-20130928-2ul6e.html

Subject: pediatric concerns over chiropractic care
Dear Lactnet Friends:
Judge Susan Getzendanner found the AMA and others guilty of an illegal conspiracy against the chiropractic profession in September of 1987, ordering a permanent injunction against the AMA and forcing them to print the court's findings in the *Journal of the American Medical Association*.
It is the parent's job to select their healthcare providers. Evidence based practice is not the only way to find a modality that is effective and safe, especially when practiced by someone with a state license.
How do pediatricians know to whom you refer?
warmly,

Subject: Belief is not evidence about vitamin D
Dear all:
What some people do not seem to understand is that in the winter months (which is differs by whether you are north or south of the equator) there are many parts of the globe where it is simply not possible from many people to get enough conversion of vitamin D from sunlight on the skin. The risk increases with distance from the equator. In Boston for instance, you cannot get enough vitamin D from sunlight for many months. Furthermore, those who live in areas of greater air pollution may have more difficulty as well.
So, yes in the summer months you can get enough vitamin D for that period of time, but depending on where you live you may not get enough in the winter. So, just believing you can sit out in the sun in the winter is not proof that you are getting enough from the sun. Low vitamin D has enough health issues associated with it that it would be a good idea to check to see if the "beliefs" about how much sun you are getting actually are confirmed with some evidence that you really a

I'm curious about this pump, too. I saw that LLL is offering it for sale in their catalog, which is usually a good sign for me that this is a well-made pump. Does anyone have any experience with this pump? I read that on some of the models you can record the sound of your baby's voice to play back while you are pumping. I thought that was a neat feature. But I would love some feedback before recommending the pump.
I did not have the experience of working and pumping, so I confess that I sometimes feel like I'm not the best resource for working/breastfeeding mothers. At the breastfeeding class that I teach, the majority of women want detailed information about working/breastfeeding, so I'm planning to incorporate more information about this in the future, including recommendations regarding quality breast pumps. So I'm closely following this discussion. Some of the best resources that I have found so far are the RN's that I work with that are pumping, they have some great tips that I have been able to pass along.
I'm not sure if list members will agree with this or not, but to confirm my suspicions about some of the poor quality pumps, I read the reviews on amazon. They seem to confirm what we are saying. Gerber, playtex and first years were rated lower and had poorer reviews. The best reviews were for Medela, Lansinoh, Hygiea, and from a company called Spectra. Has anyone else had any experience with the Spectra pumps?
That rap is catchy isn't it? I had it stuck in my head all day....

I teach a quick breastfeeding session (30 minutes) in the post-partum unit and I discuss Vit D supplements. When I have this discussion I always ask everyone in the room if they have been tested recently. I also ask this question during my routine prenatal breastfeeding class. I have been amazed to learn that roughly 90% or higher of everyone who has been tested has been low. I live in North Carolina - loaded with the sun during the summer. But on most days it is so muggy no one wants to be outside.
But, when I think about it I could relate if I found out my levels were low. 5 days out of the week I am stuck in a building from 8:00 - 5:00. Then spend 30 minutes driving home. By the time I am home the sun is gone. The same would go for the majority of mothers who are working full time as well.

There may be no issues at all. Keeping the baby calm (and bf is great
for that) can help reduce the risk of spikes in blood pressure that
could stress blood flow in the malformations.
If the baby is feeling unwell, it might be hard to settle and feed. If
the neck is stiff, then some positions might not be comfortable (baby's
usually tip their head back a little to bf). The important thing is to
assess the baby as an individual with strengths, abilities and perhaps
difficulties and use your creativity to maximize the former and
compensate for the latter.
If you have a more detailed evaluation, I'd be happy to make some
suggestions. Is the baby born yet, or has this been picked up on a
prenatal ultrasound?
