This could be an illustration of the "Hammer Principle" ( when your only tool is a hammer everything looks like a nail). I'm not going to second guess the doctor, at least without more information. Doctors only know what they have been taught, either in medical school, from the formula companies or from their own Breastfeeding experience. Every time I think that this will be the last edition of the Little Green Book of Breastfeeding Management, this kind of example comes up and I think I've got to keep it going. Sigh.
