Hi All,
Mom gave me permission to post.
Mom currently pregnant and wants to breastfeed this baby. Prior birth, baby was 6 weeks premature. Due to vomiting in baby, breastmilk was tested and found to contain bacteria. Mom was given choice to pump and pasteurize or feed formula. She chose formula. Mom was not given cause of bacteria, nor was she treated for it. I know that this isn't a complete picture, but has anyone come across a situation like this before? What can mom do now to increase the chances that she can breastfeed 2nd child? Or does she not need to be concerned about this?
I am assuming that the bacteria could be from pump parts or other environmental factors. It seems odd that it came directly from the breastmilk but I am open to that possibility.
Please enlighten me!
