There is absolutely no reason to NOT let an SGA baby go to the breast.  As
has been said, once milk is "in", test weights can be done to determine how
much baby is transferring. Mom can rent a scale and take it home. Then she
can top-off the baby with whatever amount is needed to get to the goal the
Pedi provides.

I agree, I would have mom pump after every feeding, explaining that baby is
going to need extra calories to "catch up" to where he wants to be, but may
not have the energy at first to take them all himself.

information on pumping, supplementing, including a link to Dr Morton's
videos teaching hands on pumping.
