I just got home from a couple of days away with my husband for our
anniversary. We had left our 13 and 15 year olds home with 2 expectant
goats to watch over. Of course, the first goat went into labor before
we even checked in (1.25 hours away) and healthy twin babies arrived
quickly and nursed right away. The second pair arrived less than 24
hours later in much the same manner. So much for due dates!

We got home within 48 hours of the first birth and poor mama goat was
extremely engorged on one side. The babies had trouble latching on
that side so they were just eating on the other. I explained reverse
pressure softening to my 13 year old daughter and she performed it on
mama goat. 12 ounces of milk later, mama goat felt much better. The
babies are now eating well on both sides.

Thank you K. Jean Cotterman for doing such a wonderful job explaining
this method to us! I love it when our lactation knowledge can be used
in more versatile ways.

You can see pics of her wonderfully spoiled kids here
