Yes, it happens. No one knows what the transmission rate is though. There are several published case histories from Russia...they are somewhere in my library but I can't find them right now.

Does anyone have any references regarding HIV transmission from baby to mom through breastfeeding? I have been asked by a friend who works for Project Hopeful in international adoptions of children with HIV/AIDs. Many of the adoptive mothers have asked about the possibility of HIV transmission from baby to mom through breastfeeding.
