I certainly think a formal complaint is one fine option. I don't want to sound wimpy becoz I certainly am not, but I might do it a little differently if I had to work with these people again and again. Because, knowing human nature, they may try to turn other faculty against me, and backstab when I'm not there.
I definitely would ask to meet with each one of them, with their dean present. I would present my complaint just like you did in your lactnet post. I might make the comparison, "how would you react if an expert on the urinary system or reproductive system was here? would you make a joke about the vagina or penis?" I would try to address what these men are uncomfortable with and hopefully then and there they would be apologetic and humbled. I would certainly let them know that what they have done is illegal and that you have every right to follow that route.
In other words, give them a slight second chance. Maybe.
Opinions expressed above are not necessarily those of Baptist.
