I am one of the rare ones that had a returning period within 4-6 weeks
of delivery with each of my breastfed children. I did notice a
decrease in supply prior to most periods, particularly with my last
child. I usually just nursed through it. Working and pumping certainly
complicates things.
With my 4th child, it was much more significant of a drop in supply. I
could tell it was coming by the feel of nursing. I call it "dry
nursing" it is almost a grating feeling when the baby would nurse and
there was very little or no milk available. I dealt with it by taking
More Milk Plus by Motherlove at the first sign. I would take it for a
week or so and when my supply rebounded, I stopped. I probably took to
for about 5 months. I also ate the standard galactagogues foods,
almonds and oatmeal being favorites.
I am a big fan of RPS when pumping. Moms returning to work and pumping
are giving me very good feedback on it.
