I have seen several moms with next to no sensation in their nipples after
breast reduction. Usually those nipples do not become erect
either....because the nerves are severed. So they can be very hard to
latch onto. Sometimes the surgeon puts in a pretty purse-string stitch to
make them ALWAYS erect (artificially) and there is a lot of scarring making
the nipple tissue very stiff and inelastic, which makes latch difficult.

Throw in a tongue-tied baby, and forget it!

So...maybe a year of pumping helped to stretch scarring, and it will go
better this time.
