Yes, I'm back on lactnet this morning after being "nomail" for a while.
An article I'd like to share provides food for thought as regards later sequelae in babies who still have GOR after their molars erupt. The article is about adult cases, but I can see an application for toddlers. Breastfeeding is often blamed for dental erosion in toddlers, especially when the mechanics of breastfeeding aren't understood, and other factors are ignored.
Schroeder PL, Filler SJ, Ramirez B, et al. Dental erosion and acid reflux disease. Annals of Internal Medicine 1995 (June); 122(11): 809-815.
Another dental erosion issue to keep in mind, on different teeth, was described by Dr Larry Kotlow in the JHL (date?) - dental erosion of the upper front incisors in babies with tight labial frenula (upper lip ties). This is something we need to remind our clients about, i.e. clearing food particles and cleaning those front teeth, especially in areas where none of the dentists will release a lip tie in babies under 12 months.
Warm regards,
Virginia
