One more thing: Sometimes mother doesn't have to push a little bit of
breast tissue away from baby's nose; re-positioning will take care of it.
But...sometimes a mother really does have to push a little bit of breast
away from baby's nose (due to the size and "fluffiness" of the breast, and
sometimes when she cannot get well positioned, post C/S). I notice mother
almost always pulls in a backwards direction, away from baby and towards
her back. I teach mother how to "make a very small dent and push downward
and *towards* baby, very gently). In this way, there is no pulling.
Please note that a mother post C/S, or any other medicated mother who has
to make a space for baby's nose, needs to have an alert helper present.
