Mum is 8 weeks pregnant and is exculusively breastfeeding 21 week old baby, noticed supply dropping and baby fussy at breast.
1. I think this is often a normal course initially, with supply picking up agin in 2nd trimester-is this right?
2. Usuaully caused by change in taste and baby responds accordingly, nursing less or less efficiently so supply regulates down?
3. No known breastfeeding problems until pregnant-exclusive maintained
4. Wishes to achieve at least 6 months exclusive
5. I suggested informal monitoring weight/output etc, passive latching whilst skin 2 skin to help baby overcome resistance to breast from taste changes, pumping/hand expressng as and when able
6. Would galactogogues be helpful?
Your suggestions, comments welcome
