Jan asked about coconut oil. I have these references (from Lactnet) While
not specific regarding use on sore nipples it addresses the causes of
persistent sore nipples ie yeast and bacteria. I checked with the infant risk
center and they said it is safe and like everything else you put on the
nipple should be washed off before feeding the baby. It is also important you
use pure virgin coconut oil.
