Hello,
I am a hospital based RN/IBCLC and have permission from a patient to post this concern. She has been successfully breastfeeding exclusively these first few days of postpartum, but has Crohn's disease and reports feeling an urgency to have a bowel movement every time she begins to breastfeed the baby. This happened with her previous child and she reports it got worse as the post partum period progressed, causing diarrhea and very low potassium levels. She was wondering if the oxytocin release could trigger this, since it does cause the uterus to contract. She is currently taking Remicade which I understand is an L2. Does anyone have experience with this problem or have any resources to suggest for further information? I checked the archives, but didn't find this topic directly addressed. Thank you in advance.
