Went through the archives, have done some research but I'm out of my
league here and need some guidance.
PTP
Mother is very well versed in breastfeeding management and has done
her homework planning for the latest baby (almost 2 weeks now.) She
has done thorough preparation throughout the pregnancy and now after.
Using various herbs, goat's rue started a few weeks before due date,
started domperidone at birth. There's more but I don't have the time
to put it together here right now.
Third baby, others were FTT due to low milk supply. Home birth, no
medications, co-sleeping, constant contact with babe, manual
expression in the first days after birth to encourage supply. Started
supplementing with donor milk on day 4 when wet diapers decreased.
Her main problems are likely Insufficient Glandular Tissue, she also
has PCOS. She got pregnant this last time when using Metformin to
increase supply with her then 4 month old.
She is interested in having her progesterone levels tested. MD is
willing to do various testing. I have never been involved with this
side of things. Usually MDs check the thyroid levels and say things
are fine. With her last child, thyroid levels were WNL.
I see this situation and I can't point out anything the mother is
missing. It is so frustrating to see her put so much effort, research
and love into producing more milk and not be able to make more
suggestions.
Currently nursing directly, using an SNS and Lactaid as needed with
donor milk. Pumping as she can but not very often since baby is at the
breast very frequently.
I would be happy to supply additional info if you have questions.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you,
