Interesting thread.  While we may have something in common with all mammals, there's 
a wide (to put it mildly) variation among various mammals. For example, I wouldn't 
recommend caching of babies the way it's done in, say, rabbits. I would recommend the 
marsupial method, if we only had pouches :)

In trying to figure out whether we're biologically designed to eat the placenta, I'd want 
to look at higher-order primates.  Does anyone know if those particular mammals consume 
the placenta?
