Dear Lactnet Friends:
All healthy newborns should be placed skin to skin with their mothers after
birth, no matter what their feeding choice.
Does anyone know of a research study where birth skin to skin care
increases breastfeeding rates in mothers who had chosen NOT to breastfeed?
I have seen this happen in the delivery room sometimes, when a mother says
(after her newborn has crawled over and plugged-in), "Oh, if he wants it
that much, I guess I'll do it" or "If breastfeeding is that easy, I'll do
it." Those are just stories, and anecdotes are the lowest form of evidence.
I wonder if anyone has ever studied this.
warmly,
