Permission to Post-
I have been assisting a woman who's 4 month old baby is in his 3rd week of a nursing strike. It began with a cold. Mom works full-time and baby is fed the Breast Flow bottle while she is at work. Her supply has never been great and she always wears a nipple shield. The nipple shield was being placed on the breast correctly. Any feedback and information is appreciated:
Things we have tried:
1. cosleeping at night skin to skin from waist up
2. feeding at breast while the baby is groggy
3. tube and syringe at the breast
4. with the shield- without the shield
5. take a rebirthing bath while her spouse is present
My advice has been to try, try try but stop if the baby gets upset- the breast should be his "happy place".
I have tried the following things to increase her supply- she pumps 10-15 oz day over 5 pumping sessions:
1. pump more frequently
2. use her hospital grade pump for all pumping. (She had been using a lactina at home and a ME pump at work)
3. Fenugreek- 2 capsules 4x day. Her brand includes blessed thistle.
4. Hands on pumping using Jane Mortons technique
5. hand express whenever and wherever she can- (I heard this at a Dr Jane Morton talk as a way to increase supply.
Since I began working with her a week ago- She has had a minimal increase in supply 1-3 ounces a day. The baby has taken the breast on occasion for a few minutes.
Thank you!
