I was not breastfed, not one drop of my mother's milk did I receive. It may be why I am sitting home sick again this season with another long virus. When I teach my classes, I tell them I was not nursed, that I am not dumb but oh, boy, I would be even smarter had my mom nursed me! And my immune system would be even better and maybe I wouldn't be hypertensive, or maybe it would have hit me later in life instead of at such a young age, etc. I tell them my brother has asthma. I tell them my mother was a good mother, she just didn't know, she didn't want to look poor (even though she was). I tell them our class is not to point fingers at those who didn't nurse, but to teach and give support to all moms who want success. And maybe just maybe start influencing more and more women. And change the mindset of past generations in our families (sometimes it happens!). My mother never says stupid things anymore!
