My apologies! I guess I assumed that whomever could actually help me with this question would live in the US and already understand CMS/The Joint Commission Hospital accrediting agency and the Perinatal Core Measures. If not please disregard... (CNS=Clinical Nurse Specialist, a common educator position in many US hospitals.)
Anyhow...I think we have gotten the answers that we need to proceed in a way that we are compliant.
Thanks to all of you who responded, esp Liz Brooks who was able to point out a very helpful document explaining in detail the recommendations.
For those of you who are interested in all of this please refer to her post with its link to the US Breastfeeding Committee's document discussing the Joint Commission's perinatal core measure of exclusive Breastfeeding.
