Did you read this? The first thing they did was state that breastfeeding is
"recommended for 6 months" or at least 4 mos, thank you! I can't believe
people are still getting the AAP statement wrong all these years, mixing up
the recommendation to delay solids to 6 mos with a recommendation to
breastfeed a total of 6 months! Here is an excerpt:
"Dr. Bhatia: The current recommendations are to breastfeed for a minimum of
6 months.[1] Some people say 4 months but preferably 6 months. The
advantages of breastfeeding to the baby are obviously there; the advantages
to the mother are there; the advantages to society are there, so that is the
recommendation worldwide. Obviously, in areas where water sanitation is an
issue, breastfeeding could be more prolonged because that has benefits to
the child and the mother.
Dr. Murray: So even though there is some controversy about 4-6 months,
there's no controversy about exclusive breastfeeding in the first 4 months."
Someone shoot me, please, and put me out of my misery!
