I am an IBCLC, but not an RN. I am in private practice in Ontario, Canada. In my particular area there is no other option. My local health unit will only hire RN-IBCLC's. This holds true for local hospitals.
It really does vary on where you live. Even within Ontario there are non-RN-IBCLC's who have been hired by local health units, doctors, or hospitals. It really depends on local rules.
