In addition to utilizing all of the excellent suggestions posted, I would also acquire a good CST and "go back to the beginning". What I often do especially with preemies while in the NICU and term babies post birth trauma, is go back to normal birth. After skin to skin, Mom reclines in a very laid back position (dim lighting) and place baby in breast crawl. Then observe/wait patiently. As we all know, Breast crawl works beautifully for stimulating rooting, hand to mouth and crawling behaviors, eventually leading to a successful feed, with minimal assist from us. My thoughts are to recover natural feeding instincts by frequent skin to skin care and offering BF in breast crawl, allowing baby to begin, in time, searching for nourishment with renewed and eager interest.
