As I said, I think breastfeeding is actually crucial to babies. Yes,
critical: it is both very important AND there is no good substitute for it, and
never will be, for many reasons.
That's a whole 'nother part of this complicated issue. And as we know,
stating those facts that you state brings on the accusations of fanatic,
Breastfeeding Nazi, maker-upper-of-studies, "overstater of reality", take your
pick. Hopefully more pediatricians will actually read the new AAP statement
and change their biases and practices. In the meantime, formula is
"adequate" to keep children alive, and yes I agree there is more to life and health
than simply not dying. I figured that would understood, but I guess it
wasn't and I apologize to the list for any murkiness on the issue.
Addendum: When the subject line gets changed, people can't follow the
