Just to be a little bit of a devil's advocate:
Is it fair to jump into 'how to parent' if someone asks about alcohol consumption? I had a very uncomfortable experience in a LLL meeting when someone (who was REALLY struggling) asked that question. She was lambasted by a Leader and ended up crying. Turns out the Leader's father was an alcoholic, so she brought her own baggage into a simple question. Anyway, apologies were offered, but it was still a bad scene.
Besides, the 'drug of choice' these days is not alcohol. It is xanax, ativan and other meds prescribed by doctors. There goes a whole 'nother issue.
Sincerely,
Melissa Senf RN, IBCLC, LLLL
