Can you use the model where you work as a team with a physician and bill as a medical appointment?

Subject: Rural Health Clinic Billing
There is a wealth of information in the California WIC Association (a
non-profit, not a government website) that may be of interest to everyone in the
US:
Remember that Medi-Cal is Medicaid in other states, and the requirements are the
same...
The Toolkit refers mostly to Federally Qualified Health Centers, but the
requirements are similar to Rural Health billing....
http://www.calwic.org/focus-areas/breastfeeding/health-care-reform
As this is a moving target, there will be need to keep each other informed of
what has worked...please keep the staff at CalWIC informed - they are awesome -
Karen Farley, (Program Manager - [log in to unmask] ) is my go-to person on this
and many other topics related to working with the WIC population and providing
breastfeeding support for them. As more than half our births are on WIC it makes
sense to know this!

Subject: Breastfeeding Assessment Score Tools
Hello, Wise Ones,
I have never had to using a breastfeeding score tool before now. I know
that the LATCH Score is commonly used. Many years ago I attended a La Leche
League Specialist Workshop with Jan Riordan. She compared tools and
concluded that the Via Christi was the most predictive of breastfeeding
effectiveness. Is anyone using the Via Christi Tool? Do you feel it is an
effective tool? Are there any better tools out there now?

Subject: Breastmilk for eye conditions
Cross Posting:
This is off topics but I thought it essential to run it by my collegue in this profession. My dad has been diagnosed with retinal uveitis causing him floaters in the eye and also vision problems this is due to inflammation. While we are trying allopathic in combination with natural healing and slowly moving more towards homepathy and other natural healing I am thinking of using fresh breastmilk as eye drops for a few week to a month to see if this stabalises or improve his vision. I feel intutively this may help. Has anybody ever heard or done this? I would imagine atleast there will be no harm if not benefit from this.
Thank you

Subject: Re: Breastfeeding Assessment Score Tools
The Via Christi is modified LATCH & IBFAT; There is the IBFAT (Infant
Breastfeeding Assessment Tools) - Matthews; Maternal Breastfeeding
Evaluation Scale -30 Likert scale items that measure mom's eval of the
experience of breastfeeding-Leff; The MBA (Chris Mulford's 10 questions re
maternal & infant feeding behavior); BREASTS - Jan DeCoopman; FAIBP
(Functional Assessment of Infant Breastfeeding Patterns - Walker;
FAB -Shrago ; BSSES -Dennis; LATCH and so on. There are many individual
hospital systems in the CBI files, mostly done in the 90's.
There is a Review of the Psychometric Properties of Breastfeeding
Assessment Tools, Ho & McGrath, 2010, JOGNN, 39 (4), pp386-400, which
compares self report scales.
LATCH seems to be the one most often studied for hospital use. The articles
are mostly in JHL, JOGNN, & ABM. There is an interesting article in
Breastfeeding Abstracts (LLLI) 1995 , Vol 25 (1) by Jan Riordan which has a
comparison chart of LATCH, IBFAT, MBA, PIBSS & Via Christi.
Hopefully some people who actually use one of these systems will comment on
how the system works in their hospital. Pat in SNJ

Subject: Copper IUD
Hi All,
Cross-posting. Does anyone know if the copper from a copper IUD passes into
breastmilk? A mom heard about the copper toxicity that some moms deal with
when getting a copper IUD. This toxicity can mimic PPD. I know this can
and does happen as one of my clients just recently dealt with it. But...the
copper in the breastmilk aspect...any thoughts?
Warmly,
Jaye
PS - thank you so much for the help for the mom in Perth! J
