What you're describing is part of a much wider problem with freebies in
general and the conflict of interest they create, usually showing up
with pharmaceutical companies, but, as you point out, just as much an
issue when it happens with formula companies. The advocacy organisation
to counter the drug rep freebies is called 'No Free Lunch', so I would
start by checking out their website to see what literature they have on
the general issue. I know the British Medical Journal had an issue
about it a while back, though can't remember when - however, you could
find it on their site (bmj.com) easily enough.
