Dear Lactnet Friends:
When my father-in-law was dying, my Italian husband and I went to Bologna,
Italy. My nursing was nearly 3.
I don't really know what people thought. As she was my second baby, and I
was already active as a lactation consultant, I never thought twice about
nursing her anywhere. I never picked up any bad vibes from anyone. We did
have to leave the church before the end of the funeral as she got noisy, as
toddlers are wont to do.
I do remember people criticizing me for bringing her everywhere, even to
the viewing; at the same time, everyone wanted to hold her. Something about
having a baby around at a time of death comforts people.
warmly,
