Allyson,
A co-worker recently discovered her baby has this condition. She lifted the baby's lip 2 hours after a feeding, and discovered breastmilk still in the vicinity. This raises the risk for this child to get cavities in the front baby teeth because it seems to interfere with oral self-cleaning of tooth surfaces nearby. I believe I read that any correction should take place either before the baby teeth erupt, or wait till they fall out, because of some connection to dentition. I also believe I read somewhere that it can lead to a wide separation between the two front teeth (a la David Letterman's smile.)
