Information from the lovely Bridget Ingle for you.

Virgin coconut oil is a powerful anti fungal, anti bacterial and anti viral. It works by breaking down encapsulated organisms.

It can be eaten, cooked with, massaged in, placed in, placed on...... etc
It's chemical composition doesn't change when it is heated.
Interesting to note that lauric acid is only found in:
breastmilk of all mammals (human milk highest)
coconut oil
palm kernel oil (not palm oil)

Hope that helps.

As for the allergies, its the same with anything I might suggest for the mother to use, its all based on assessment and history, if the mother, baby or family have history of allergies I am cautious and advise mothers to seek some alternative advise from appropriate sources. And if they are using it for the first time, to go gently and make sure no reaction. It may not be a reactive substance but people tend to react to many different substances, so I am cautious.
