Dear friends,

A friend of a friend has asked me if I will pass on this message from
a correspondent, who is a reporter with AOL Huffington Post, to
LACTNET subscribers. If you can help, please would you reply to the
address shown. Many thanks!

"My name is Claire Gordon. I'm a reporter with AOL Huffington Post
(an American internet newspaper), and I'm working on a story about
wetnursing. There is an agency in California with a registry of over
1,000 wet nurses, and their ranks are growing. Usually these women
live with their employers for at least a year, often with their own
babies, and sometimes their husbands. They earn around $1000 week.

"I'm trying to get in touch people who have worked as wet nurses, or
want to work as wet nurses, as well as families who have hired or are
looking to hire them, so I can get a better idea of what this
practice looks like today. I'm also trying to understand this
phenomenon in the context of breastfeeding more generally. Why are so
many people squeamish (at least in the U.S.) around the idea of
nursing another woman's baby? Why are people choosing to hire a wet
nurse over the alternatives?

"If anyone has insights about this topic, has practiced
cross-nursing, or (and especially) has experience as/with a wet
nurse, please send me an email. I'd love to talk! You can reach me at
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>[log in to unmask]"
