There are load and loads (AND LOADS) of research showing that breastfeeding
is protective against rotavirus infection. Some of the mechanisms are very
well understood (for example there is a glycan decoy specifically for
rotavirus). I am not aware of any research that show a benefit to
exclusively breastfed infants of rotavirus vaccination. Such vaccination is
only necessary as a public health intervention where rates of artificial
feeding are high as they are here in Australia where our govt spends many
millions on vaccination of infants for just some strains of rotavirus....how
much better spend would the money have been on enabling mothers to
breastfeed.
