Hear hear.

Just finished Judy Gutowski's post about why an IBCLC "should" (yes, it is
an incendiary word ...) see every mother and baby here in the USA, with its
highly-medicalized and intervention-dependent birthing practices, virtually
non-existent maternity leave (paid OR unpaid), and virtually non-existent
community-based IBCLC care for clinical BF issues.

Of course, the Judy's accurate synopsis just makes me want to curl up into
fetal position in the corner.

It is rather frightening to see, condensed into six paragraphs, all the
reasons why an American family that has just undergone what ought to be
considered the normal biologic processes of childbirth and breastfeeding
"should" also have an in-person visit with an IBCLC.

Our profession has a long way to go; perhaps I really should say our society
and culture have a long way to go.
