I don't know of any documented cases of hiv or hep b transmission by breast
pump parts. I think we need to keep in mind the fear, of disease, of
litigation, associated with these viruses. What you think would be safe and
what you can take the chance on legally are two different things. As I read
the comments, I continue to think of the fact that breastmilk contains
anti-viral activity. HIV is destroyed by breastmilk in vitro, and I would
question the reality of transmission through pump parts properly cleaned and
sterlized. As for the NMAA recommendation, they always come down on the
conservative side, for all the reasons Kathy mentioned.
