My personal rant as I struggle with being home sick again!

I think we are just now seeing the long term effects of not breastfeeding infants in this culture! These chronic candida infections, chronic immune system disorders, metabolic syndrome, etc.. etc. etc.. IMHO is the backlash of our generations of infants being fed substandard diets devoid of Long, medium and short chain fatty acids, vital nutrients and trace minerals and complex immune components as well as hormones and pre pro hormones.. seen in this "epidemic" of chronic fatigue, hypothyroidism, "adrenal fatigue", type 2 diabetes, and on and on and on...

The SAD (standard american diet) is definitely a contributor, but generally, a person who has all their systems functioning will not fall into that rut so easily - look at what most 80 year old people are eating and it is not the SAD! Take an infant, get it hooked on high fructose corn syrup as a carb source and that infant will become a child who craves high fructose corn syrup...

The photos on kellymom of the cell size and structure of breastmilk compared to homogenized and pasteurized cow's milk and formula say it all - the "experts" made a BIG mistake (unless, of course, their primary purpose was to conduct a mass experiment on substitute infant foods and their long term effects...)

When one reads about the process used to ensure sterility of infant formula, one can see that all those EFA's and probiotics don't stand a chance of surviving... so whoopdeedoo that they are added.. question is "are they still viable?"
I resent the fact that these corporations and our government are allowed to constantly undermine breastfeeding and then claim that they are striving to improve the health of infants..

All that said, I have to thank my parents for making their own sauerkraut and naturally fermented pickles and teaching me to do the same, and for being too poor to buy "junk food", for growing their own vegetables and fruit, making us take cod liver oil and for always cooking from scratch. My 86 yr. old mother still makes her own soft cheese, brined pickles and can rarely be found in the house during gardening season.. or when she's off helping other people... She often says how sad she is that she didn't have enough milk to breastfeed her babies - you know that hospital schedule from the 50's... baby comes to mom every 4 hours during the day for feeding and not at all at night... no wonder! We were fed the standard home made formula of the day - Evaporated cow's milk and corn syrup.... a recipe for a global health disaster!

just had to vent.. thanks for listening :>)
