I got a call today about a woman who is 3 months pregnant (due in September) who is also expecting to adopt a baby in May. The question was, could the pregnant mom try breastfeeding the adopted baby (she will be about 5 months pregnant)? She has had 5 years of infertility and this is the first time she has been pregnant. I know pregnant moms breastfeed all the time, but wonder if the history of infertility adds a higher than usual level of concern. I'm also thinking she wouldn't want to do any kind of protocol to stimulate lactation due to the pregnancy. If anyone has had experience with this, I would love to hear about it. Thanks.
