Liz - thank you for outlining this for those of us (ME!) who do not
understand the complicated language and double speak of these types of
documents. I am floored - disappointed and disgusted.

The very fact that they did all this rewriting and such behind our backs is
disturbing to me in so many ways. The watering down, the clear conflict of
interests, the 'sole discretion' language - OMG! I read this post to my
family who are equally floored and dismayed by IBLCE's behavior and changes.

A few years back when language was being bantered about regarding forcing
us IBCLC's to not contradict the MD while at the same time telling us to
give current evidence based information (the Scope of Practice) I made the
personal decision that, if that had passed I would not re-certify in 2010.
They changed the language and made it acceptable to us and I re-certified.
Now, however, I'm not so sure I can do that in 2015 and stay true to my own
personal Ethics - and here is why:

Our Code of Ethics is gone - replaced with a watered down crappy (in my
opinion) Code of Professional Conduct. I can't say, "I am not allowed to
do X based on my IBLCE Code of Ethics," anymore. Now it is, "I won't do X
based on my own professional ethics." I want BOTH. We should HAVE BOTH.
Also, this revelation of new changes done behind our backs and watering
down, muddying the waters of disciplinary actions and procedures is
reprehensible. I already had issues with respecting IBLCE as a whole for
other reasons that go back several years, but they have lost my respect
nearly in full now. And it HURTS!

IBLCE used to have strength and some kick ass requirements and checks and
balances. Maybe they weren't perfect, but they were a hell of a lot better
than this nonsense. I just don't understand. I am disappointed -
disgusted and disillusioned. :(

Please tell me it isn't as bad as it sounds...please?

Jaye
