I just had a very bizarre and disturbing experience. I received a phone
call from someone named Nathan Klein with United Health Care. He mentioned
the name of one of my clients but did not provide a member ID or claim
number.

This reminds me a little of an experience I had last month: a woman named
Sharon called, from a #866-331-6256, claiming she was calling on behalf of
an insurance company, MultiPlan, naming a baby I had seen, the mother's
name, and a "reference " number. She left two messages. Online the # came up as
a scam call from some company that tries to insert itself between
providers and their clients, saying they will do the billing for you, or help the
client get reimbursed, but what they mean is they take a cut of the fee or
reimbursed amount. When I finally called back to tell them to STOP leaving
me messages, this woman got on the phone and said "oh no this is just to
help this person get reimbursed, we just need more information, blahblah". I
called the baby's mother and told her about it, saying I thought it was a
scam but that if her insurance company did call her, to let me know if it was
legitimate. It took mom a month, but she called me back saying she never
had any trouble with her insurance, and had gotten no call like this. Not
surprisingly, the information this person said she needed to send me to fill
out so the mom could get reimbursed never came, and that was from November
26th. Hmmm. If you still have the #, you can type it into a Google search
and see if it pops as a scam. The # I typed in came up on several pages,
mostly with MDs writing in how they were getting these bogus calls. I did
report it to the site as well.
Peace,
Judy
