Hi, lactnet ladies.
I was surprised to learn today that a mom/baby I referred for tongue tie was charged $572 for the simple office visit. (though the doc did a great job!) I visited with the office billing manager. The reimbursable fee in Idaho is $139 for Medicaid, and between $174-214 for Blue Cross. The office is calculating their fees based on RVUs.

I'm curious to know what the common fee is in other areas of the country, and if anyone has experience or insight in communicating with a family practice for pricing. The last referral to this doc cost the mom $20--clearly that was before the office manager figured out CPTs. $572 seems too costly. They are open for input, so I hope to hear from other areas.

Thanks,
Amy Peterson, IBCLC
Idaho
